Paul and Mary and my family were close when all of our kids were young. My heart goes out to Erin's husband, daughter, and family who are in my thoughts and prayers. I'd heard that Ms. Raleigh had been battling with an illness for some time but always shrugged it off and refused to believe it. If it's one thing I want to always remember about her it is the simple fact that she was one of the only educators and adults I ever really learned anything from.

She was actually smart. She actually cared, and she was actually capable of instilling that in her pupils. I credit nearly all of my literary abilities to her and am forever thankful for her amazing sense of humor, kindness and caring. The world has truly lost an incredible person and I think I speak for everyone else that had her as an educator or friend in saying that she can not be replaced and will forever be missed.

I went to St. John's University in New York after graduating from St. Mary's and while at school I worked as a tutor in the writing center on campus. As a tutor I simply passed along the skills She taught me. When I looked at students papers, it was her voice in my head I was a good tutor because of Her. I ended up graduating from St. John's with a Bachelor's Degree in English.

I will attend Catholic University Law School in the fall and break out my Erin Raleigh bag of tricks again while writing my Law papers. She will be sorely missed and I especially mourn for the future and recently graduated classes at St. Mary's high school who were not and will not be so blessed to have Erin Raliegh as a teacher.

Raleigh taught me honors english for only one semester but her passion and humor has stayed with me all these 8 years since. My thoughts are with her whole amazing family and I know she will live on through all the young lives she's touched. I feel very lucky to have spent the small time I did in her company. God bless.
