Are you looking for a unique boutique hotel in Boston for this summer? If so check out my enVision Hotel Boston Everett review! Fortunately, my adopted hometown of Boston is rich in history, culture, and nature, so I have plenty of new and old attractions to explore between my trips throughout the U.
Until recently , though, I had never stayed overnight at a Boston-area hotel. I first learned about enVision Hotels, a unique line of boutique hotels, when I met with Choice Hotels International at a travel conference in January. Paul, Minnesota; and Iowa City, Iowa. Like many communities on the outskirts of Boston, Everett is undergoing a period of transformation as new residents arrive in search of more affordable housing options.
From the minute you walk through the sliding doors, you can tell that its past has strongly influenced its present. Right in front of you is the front desk, an eye-catching structure made from a pile of old suitcases and trunks. I motivated myself to work out twice, though, in the very clean and spacious fitness center. The enVision Hotel Boston Everett has a spacious bar and dining area in the lobby; however, there were only a few pre-made items available to purchase for each meal at the Against the Grain Bistro.
Since there are mostly fast food restaurants and convenience stores located within walking distance, I hope the Bistro offers more options and some fresh options in the future. It did have local beer on tap, though, and I always appreciate that. There also are numerous r estaurants as well as shops and a movie theater at Assembly Row in Somerville. This enVision Hotel Boston Everett review was provided in exchange for two nights of accommodations.
The mid-range hotel is most convenient for its medical rate and proximity to Longwood Medical Center, but is also fairly close to Fenway and across the street from Olmstead Park. Some rooms face the park and all include Keurig coffeemakers and flat-screen TVs. The nearby Inn at Longwood Medical is closer to restaurants, but lacks some of the trendy flair that enVision offers—like a Wii Fit in the gym, iPads in the business center, and carefully designed rooms.
EnVision Hotel Boston is a boutique, three pearl gem with a classy neighborhood feel to it—helped by the small size only 39 rooms and trendy design touches, like the glass city map greeting visitors at the reception.
Funky lamps in the corners and green accents brighten up the muted browns and grays throughout the space. Staff hosts daily receptions that showcase dessert tastings and occasional live music.
Fenway Park is only a minute taxi ride away, and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is an eight-minute drive. The hotel is in a dead zone in terms of restaurant and nightlife—the closest restaurant is Wok and Talk, or a sandwich shop a little further down on South Huntington.
Otherwise the only other option is to hop on the T or take a taxi to a livelier section of town. Olmstead Park is just a minute walk away and has a handful of fresh-water ponds and wooded trails. Rooms here are each unique in their layout, but all are immaculate, spacious, and come with top-notch amenities, like flat-screen TVs, microwaves, Keurig coffeemakers, and iPod docks. Extra touches make these rooms special: robes and slippers in every closet, super soft mattresses, and a contemporary design that incorporates shades of green with dark mahogany furniture and tasteful lighting, all of which gives off an overall soothing tone.
Single sinks provide enough counter space to unpack toiletries and standard toiletries are provided. It might be worth requesting a room towards the back of the hotel, not only for the lovely views of Olmstead Park, but also to avoid any potential noise from busy South Huntington Ave out front. It offers a sizable variety of breakfast and lunch options, including bagels, cereal, and vegan granola bars—all at reasonable prices. The basement gym is not huge, but has a wide range of modern equipment and free weights, a number of TVs, fresh towels, a scale, and a Wii Fit for those wanting a more creative workout experience.
The business center makes up a small and informal space in the lobby, where guests have access to iPads for internet and printing. Copying and faxing options are also available. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. The three-pearl Hampton Inn and Suites Boston Crosstown Center is thoroughly middle of the road -- not bad and not exceptional. It's next door to Boston Medical Center and a five-minute drive to downtown; the immediate area is deserted at night.
