There are opportunities available at this school that are not available at other schools in the area but those programs are completely taken for granted by the students.
There are a lot of violent behavior problems at this school. A lot of time is taken away from the teachers by disruptive students, the students that want to learn suffer. The teachers care, the principle works very hard to improve conditions and does the best she can under the circumstances, but neither she or the teachers can fix the inherent problems of the neighborhood. The music and art programs are here, but there is just too much time devoted to keeping the students in line.
The school has great support staff that communicate well with parents. Teacher communication is dependent on the teacher, the teachers that do keep in contact are typically the ones with better success with the students. I have 3 children attending this school and I like it very much the teachers and staff are super good and very understandable on anything that concern parents. The reason why I give it 4 stars is because I will like to see more after school programming for the English speaking children as much as they have for the Spanish speaking children! Dont get me wrong i think it's fantastic that the school has a alot if help for the none speaking Spanish students, and I am Hispanic with non Spanish speaking children and I think they should have the same right as everyone else!!
Patterson High School. I think Patterson high shcool has wonderful teachers and office staff. The teachers go out of their way to help the students achieve their goals.
The only problem I see is some ot the students are disrespectful and to me that is sad, becuase they are only hurting theimselves. Other then that I think patterson can be a successful school if the students would be more serious about thier education and have respect for themselves and others.
Forest Park High School. Well my child is a 9th grader and they put her in jortc something we thought you had to request not only did my child fail it she don't have a complete uniform just pants and shose how is she suppose to participate with just that and don't contact anyone oooo but they do have pregnant girls shirts and my child don't even look like she is having a baby the school is terrible to me lack of communication that's what it is. Frederick Douglass is an amazing school. We miss Dr. Hurt but still moving forward. This will not affect the direction the school's going in.
My child is apart of the early college program and have excelled in many ways from the program. It's good to hear my son share that his teachers are serious about him passing. Parents at Douglass stay involved with your child so they can benefit from the amazing programs at Douglass.
Edmondson-Westside High School. It is a great school!!! My son transferred here and has been very happy with this school, the football program and the teachers.
Parent Review 9y ago. I can't argue with the reviews that appear before this one chronologically. However, I can say that with a change of administration, and a near-complete turnover of teaching staff, Ben Franklin has come a VERY long way over the last two years. The school is being renovated and looks much better, behavioral incidents are far below previous levels in both frequency and intensity, and there's a level of pride in there that I haven't seen in years.
If you're into sports, there are lots of teams you can join. BFHS is a school that works very hard to customize the education to the student rather than the other way around.
